Leader of the opposition, YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy slapped legal notice to three Telugu media channels – ABN Andhra Jyothi, ETV and TV 9 for telecasting a news based on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) tweet naming a shell company and attributing it to Jagan without verifying the facts.
The three channels, after reacting to the ED tweet which ran “ED (conducted) searches at shell companies related to Y.S. Jagan Reddy Rajeshwar Exports and others to unearth their modus operandi (sic),” ran reports claiming that Jagan had nexus with the Shell entity along with Rajeshwar Exports.
YSRCP taking a serious view of these reports slapped legal notice accusing them of running a smear campaign with malafied intentions. In the notice the channels were accused of running an unverified and unconfirmed news with the intention to defame Jagan, leader of the opposition.
The ED in 2016 stated that its investigations revealed that Jagan laundered the proceeds of crime through his group of companies — Sandur Power Company Pvt Ltd, Classic Realty Pvt Ltd, Silicon Builders Pvt Ltd, Saraswati Power and Industries Pvt Ltd and 10 others — in the form of investments, purchase of movable and immovable properties and third party payments among others. PMO’s STF gave green signal to ED to carry out raids on shell companies across the country.
